Faded picture of a young girl
On her wedding day
Groom awkward in his Sunday best
Surrounded by family
Starting on their way
Ended up in this old chest
I’ll call her Susan,
Her husband Samuel Smith
They held five babes in their arms
One died in the Great War
Another as a child
Youngest two grew up and left that farm
Mountains crumble
Rivers run dry
Stars fall out of the sky
Not even our memories
Can pass the test of time
Their son moved to New York City
Daughter Santa Fe
They raised families of their own
Their children’s children scattered
Sue forgotten on the way
Great grandma they had never known

Mountains crumble
Rivers run dry
Stars fall out of the sky
Not even our memories
Can pass the test of time
Everything’s so fleeting
Still we struggle on
To make a mark upon this world
That fades when we are gone
But life is life is life
The years go by
This is what we do
Live our moments
Remember all we can
Until our days are through
Mountains crumble
Rivers run dry
Stars fall out of the sky
Not even our memories
Can pass the test of time
We’ll keep making these memories
As long as we’ve got time
We’ll keep making these memories
They more than pass the time |
