Tears Sing A River
Written for myself after my mother passed away last year after watching rain drops landing on the very dry soil in Nevada. I was suddenly struck by the image of rain as tears and its healing power
.

Parched earth, cracked and broken
Beneath an azure sky
Clouds grey as charcoal
Come drifting by
Soil softens as rain falls all around
Heaven opens and cries upon the ground
Like the earth my heart’s so dry
I need a really good cry

Tears sing a river that bathes my soul
Wash through the pain, mix it with joy
Carry me down the canyon
And out to sea
Where I will be whole again

I dance with sorrow
Play a game of hide and seek
Afraid to face the pain
Heck I barely take a peek
Say, “I’m alright I just want to go home”
Find a thousand other things
To do when I’m alone
Like the earth my heart’s so dry
I need a really good cry

Tears sing a river that bathes my soul
Wash through the pain, mix it with joy
Carry me down the canyon
And out to sea
Where I will be whole again

My body is aching for peace
Time to swim in the river
I want that sweet release
Tears can deliver

Tears sing a river that bathes my soul
Wash through the pain, mix it with joy
Carry me down the canyon
And out to sea
Where I will be whole again
