All Across Town
The only song I've ever written featuring a fence post as a key character.

Sun rises out beyond the edge of town
Sunlight filters all around
And a day begins
Borne on the wind
A man wanders through that wind
As though searching for a home
Like a paper blowing around the sidewalk
Looking for a fencepost
To call its own

Time to take a chance
Clear the weeds out of my head
Learn to dance
A gentle reminder
Of things I hold so dear

Cause we don’t know
And we can’t find
And we don’t have
All that much time
To fall in
To a new dream
Where all our loves and our delights
Hold us tight
All across town

Small pebble inside my shoe
Reminds me of something I want to do
Sometimes a little pain’s the trick
To help make a lesson stick
My thoughts wonder around town
Like the wind blowing across the streets
Like a dream floating through the landscape
Catching on a fencepost
Calling it home

Time to take a chance
Clear the weeds out of my head
Learn to dance
A gentle reminder
Of things I hold so dear

Cause we don’t know
And we can’t find
And we don’t have
All that much time
To fall in
To a new dream
Where our loves and our delights
Hold us tight
All across town
All across town
All across town
